This is a Mexican sterling silver brooch and earring set inlaid with faceted alexandrite gemstones. The modern set was designed and handcrafted by Miguel Melendez in Taxco, Mexico in the 1950's. There are two gorgeous 8mm deep purple gemstones on the earrings and a 10mm on the brooch. The stones are darker and more colorful in person, they appear lighter than they really are in the photos. The earrings have screwback hardware that works well. Melendez was a master silversmith who worked at Las Delcias, Los Castillo and Margot De Taxco. He occasionally created jewelry on his own, finding inspiration in nature. He was known to enjoy working with alexandrites.
