Looking at such beauty tells the capabilities of Native American art! This piece of Native American jewelry is Navajo overlay hand crafted by artist Ralph Bia out of genuine sterling silver. Overlay is a process that utilizes at least two layers of sterling silver. One layer forms the foundation, while the second is used to design the individual detailed overlay. In this belt buckle, the second layer forms gorgeous Kokopelli and Bear Paw designs, along with other traditional patterns for a fabulous finish. In Native American beliefs, the bear paw is usually considered a way to call for the power of the animal spirit, or as an indication of the presence of the spirit. It is a symbol that represents inner strength. The Kokopelli is a common fertility symbol throughout the Southwest. In Native American beliefs, the Kokopelli visits various communities, seducing and impregnating the young women drawn to the tones of his flute playing. The buckle is stamped sterling and hallmarked.
