These cufflinks are made from two genuine Irish five pence coins, one minted in 1993, one in 1996, both showing the Irish harp. Introduced in 1992, the small type cúig phingin is 18.5mm in diameter and was used until midnight on February 9, 2002, after the introduction of the euro.
The coins are soldered to the cufflink backs, not glued, so they're built to last longer than the currency itself did. Silver-toned, substantial, and conversation-guaranteed.
