This comprehensive blend of macro and trace minerals with added Shilajit and Laminaria supports healthy mineral status for daily wellness, detoxification, energy and vitality.

Our perfectly balanced multi-mineral supplement has been formulated with optimal ratios of key macro and trace minerals including magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, and more for optimal absorption and physiological effects. Minerals are essential nutrients that perform many functions in the body, including supporting healthy bones, skeletal muscles, and the brain. While minerals are found naturally in our food, it can be difficult to acquire adequate amounts from food alone, making mineral supplementation a welcomed solution.

Mineral depletion is a burgeoning health problem many people unknowingly face, even in industrialized societies.1 There are several reasons why mineral depletion is common today despite the plentiful food supply enjoyed by most in the industrialized world:

  1. Industrial agricultural practices, including the use of synthetic fertilizer and the growth of monoculture crops, may deplete minerals in our food.8
  2. Diets high in ultra-processed foods, such as bread, chips, soda, and frozen meals, are increasingly common. Such diets are associated with inadequate mineral intake in children and suboptimal levels of certain minerals in adults.9,10
  3. Modern-day lifestyle factors, such as prolonged stress and medications, disrupt mineral balance in the body.11,12

By increasing levels of beneficial minerals with mineral supplementation, individuals can fill critical nutritional gaps, ensuring mineral adequacy for optimal health and wellness. Research shows that supplementation with a multimineral is associated with higher nutrient intakes, reduced risks of nutrient inadequacies, and improvements in biomarkers of nutrient status in middle-aged and older adults, offering hope for better health.13 .

MACRO MINERALS

Macro minerals are minerals required by the body in large amounts, typically more than 100 mg daily. They include calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium and are essential for maintaining healthy foundational physiological functions. Think of macro minerals as the cornerstones of one’s health “foundation.”

Calcium and Magnesium

Most people associate calcium primarily with bone health. While calcium is indeed a critical component of bone, it also plays other vital roles in physiology. It functions as a second messenger in cell-signaling pathways, maintains tooth enamel, and fortifies the body against the harms of lead exposure.14 People on plant-based diets are prone to calcium insufficiency15 and must ensure calcium intake through proper plant sources and supplements.

Magnesium is an under-consumed nutrient in the modern-day industrialized diet, meaning it is consumed at levels relative to its estimated average requirement or adequate intake level.16,17 One of the most significant influences on magnesium status is prolonged stress, which has been found to drain magnesium levels by increasing urinary magnesium excretion.18,19 Simultaneously, magnesium influences neurotransmitter systems that help the body relax and counteract stress.13 Since prolonged stress and low magnesium create a vicious cycle of dysfunction, maintaining a healthy magnesium level is vital for stress resilience.

Moreover, clinical studies demonstrate that magnesium helps maintain healthy insulin and blood sugar levels and may also support bone strength, though more research is needed.20,21 It also shows promise for supporting brain health.22 It is a cofactor for numerous pathways in cellular energy metabolism;23 without sufficient magnesium, whole-body energy availability may suffer.

Calcium and magnesium must be balanced to support healthy physiological functions. A range of calcium/magnesium ratios have been suggested for supporting optimal health, with a 2:1 ratio (encompassing calcium and magnesium consumed through food and supplements) commonly recommended.24 Maintaining calcium/magnesium balance may be important for bone and cardiovascular health.25,26

Sodium and Potassium

Sodium and potassium work together to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, blood volume, and nerve conduction. Maintaining a healthy balance of these two macro minerals is essential for sustaining the body’s basic functions, including cardiovascular activity and blood pressure.

To maintain healthy physiological function and electrolyte balance, sodium and potassium must be consumed in the appropriate ratio. Contrary to popular belief, lowering sodium intake as much as possible isn’t ideal for optimal health. In fact, there is a nonlinear association between sodium intake and daily sodium-potassium ratio intake and all-cause mortality, where sodium intakes that are either too low or too high are associated with health risks.27

TRACE MINERALS DRIVE DETOXIFICATION

Trace minerals are needed in small amounts of less than 100 mg/day, with each trace mineral making up less than 0.01% of body weight.28 Trace minerals influence a broad range of physiological functions. However, a common denominator among trace minerals is that each is involved in detoxification.

Iron, Copper, and Zinc

Iron is an intrinsic component of hundreds of proteins and enzymes in the body, including the cytochrome P450 enzymes involved in electron transport for cellular energy production and detoxifying foreign substances.29 The iron requirement for cytochrome P450 enzyme activation makes it essential for Phase I detoxification, which involves cytochrome P450 enzymes.30 Iron is also vital for forming hemoglobin and myoglobin, the oxygen-carrying proteins in our red blood cells and skeletal muscles.31

Iron partners with other nutrients that aid its absorption and metabolism. Vitamin C aids iron absorption, either by increasing the acidity of the upper gastrointestinal tract or possibly by converting ferric (Fe3+) iron to absorbable ferrous (FE2+) iron.32 Copper may aid iron absorption by acting as a cofactor for intestinal enzymes that regulate iron homeostasis.33

To date, zinc is known to be a component of at least 300 enzymes in the human body.34 Metallothioneins, a family of small proteins, serve as a reservoir for zinc and are central to heavy metal detoxification.35

Furthermore, zinc also interacts with iron and copper. Zinc may regulate intestinal iron absorption36 and zinc and copper must be consumed in an optimal ratio to maintain optimal health. A low zinc/copper ratio is associated with neurodevelopmental problems and compromised immune function in children and adolescents.37

Iodine and Selenium

Iodine forms the core of thyroid hormones, including triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine(T4), while selenium is a cofactor for enzymes that offer antioxidant protection to the thyroid.38 Iodine insufficiency can cause insufficient thyroid hormone production, while selenium insufficiency may increase damaging oxidative stress in the thyroid gland.39,40 Research shows that, despite salt iodization practices, mild-to-moderate iodine deficiency is common in the United States.41 Healthy thyroid function creates cellular energy (ATP),42 and adequate cellular energy is necessary for detoxification.43

The thyroid is a primary target for toxic heavy metals, including mercury.44 Iodine’s sister mineral, selenium, demonstrates protective effects against mercury toxicity and is important for thyroid function.45 Selenium is also an intrinsic component of glutathione peroxidase and thioredoxin reductase, enzymes that protect the thyroid gland and the entire body against oxidative stress.46,47,48

Chromium and Vanadium

Healthy blood sugar control is essential for whole-body well-being, including maintaining a healthy inflammatory response. Chromium and vanadium are two trace minerals that may influence blood sugar regulation.

The body requires chromium in minute amounts; despite its minor role, clinical research shows that chromium supplementation may be efficacious for maintaining healthy insulin and blood sugar in patients with significant blood sugar dysregulation.49,50

Vanadium is another trace mineral used to aid healthy blood sugar and insulin levels.49 Preclinical research indicates that vanadium may help people maintain healthy blood sugar and insulin levels.51

Manganese

Manganese is a cofactor for superoxide dismutase (SOD), an enzyme critical for regulating oxidative stress.52 SOD is thus a key part of the body’s antioxidant defense system. Manganese-SOD dysfunction is associated with blood sugar, cardiovascular health, cognitive health, and aberrant cell growth.53 Maintaining a healthy manganese intake may ensure a sufficient supply of this trace mineral for SOD activity.

Molybdenum

Molybdenum is a little-known mineral that is vital in executing several detoxification functions. It is a cofactor for several enzymes involved in detoxification, including sulfite oxidase.54 It is also a cofactor for the enzymes xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase, which metabolize drugs and other toxins.55

NON-ESSENTIAL MINERALS

Lithium

Many people associate lithium with psychotropic lithium, a medication used to treat bipolar disorder. However, lithium as a trace mineral is a different story. Lithium consumed in small amounts, in contrast to the large doses provided in lithium medication, offers several brain benefits to healthy people. Lithium in supplemental doses is often referred to as “nutritional lithium.”

Nutritional lithium has been found to support a calmer, more buoyant, and more stable mood.56 It may support the brain by helping transport vitamin B12 and folate into the brain; however, more research is necessary to better elucidate this proposed mechanism.57 Maintaining a healthy lithium status may also help support resilient cognition as we age.58 Finally, nutritional lithium may support a healthy inflammatory response by inhibiting inflammatory pathways such as NF-kB and STAT and activating the anti-inflammatory NRF2 pathway.59

Boron

Boron is a trace mineral that we rarely hear about. However, emerging research indicates that it supports the maintenance of healthy bone tissue, helps the body metabolize vitamin D and absorb magnesium, helps the body maintain a healthy inflammatory balance, and increases the body’s resilience to heavy metals.60

SHILAJIT AND LAMINARIA: NATURAL MINERALS FROM THE LAND AND SEA

Shilajit is an organic resin secreted from mountains in the Himalayas formed over centuries from the decomposition of plants. While traditional cultures have used it medicinally for thousands of years, its chemical composition has only recently been elucidated. It is rich in fulvic acid and a wide range of minerals including calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and copper.61

The rich mineral content of Shilajit may explain its beneficial effects on energy and vitality, cognitive function, and stress resilience.62 Emerging research suggests it may also aid bone health in postmenopausal women with low bone density by mitigating oxidative stress and may promote bone health post-fracture.63,64 Interestingly, preclinical research indicates that the fulvic acid in Shilajit may help transport minerals into cells, where most minerals perform their vital functions, possibly improving mineral balance.65,66

Laminaria (also known as kombu or kelp) is a brown seaweed native to cold ocean waters along the shores of Japan, Korea, and China. It is a source of iodine and other bioactive compounds, including polyphenols and fucoidan, and is reported to offer multiple health benefits, including the ability to support healthy blood sugar control67 and positively influence other features of metabolic dysfunction.68 Seaweeds like Laminaria are a significant source of iodine and other trace elements, making seaweed useful for supporting thyroid function when consumed in proper amounts69 and potentially helpful for supporting bone70 and metabolic health.71 Laminaria also contains alginates, which can bind to heavy metals72 and may facilitate their removal from the body.
