Test procedure: Make sure the motorcycle is neutral. Even with the ignition off! You can test your old solenoid before pulling it out of the bike. The solenoid that applies 12 volts to two wires inside the plastic connector is polarity sensitive. Applying 12 volts with the wrong polarity will not damage the solenoid, it will simply not work. If you install 12 volts correctly on two small wires: starter crank, solenoid, battery and starter are all good. If you hear the solenoid click but the starter does not crank, the solenoid is good.
