This stunning pair of handcrafted Japanese ceramic tea bowls brings to mind swaying grass in the wind & sunlight. The greenish white brush lines represent waves of swaying grass in a pleasant summer breeze, and the foot of each cup represents the earth.

The craftsmen Mr. Tanii, designed a particular brush made of straw to create the lines of glaze, which themselves are composed of white soil and a traditional green glaze. The foot of each cup has a deliberately rough, earthy texture, to bring to mind the Japanese ideal of wabi sabi and naturalness.

This shigaraki yaki ceramic cup is particularly thin, which makes one able to enjoy the subtle flavours of delicious Japanese green tea. To create such a thin design requires great care and skilful technique.

The tea bowls come beautifully packaged in a handsome gift box.
