Hydrosols are an excellent alternative to essential oils since they have a comparable scent but are water-based, allowing them to be utilized in goods where oil does not perform well, such as cleaning solutions.  Hydrosols are a result of steam distilling essential oils.  They have many similar advantages, as well as additional benefits that are water soluble and not found in essential oils themselves.  When essential oils are distilled, two products are produced: essential oil on top and hydrosol on the bottom.  The two are then separated into hydrosol and essential oil.
