More than 126,000 1997-2004 Corvettes have been recalled due to an issue with the steering column locking system. Column lock failure can cause the following C5 Corvettes to malfunction: All 97-04 MT cars, 97-00 AT cars, 01-04 AT cars for export to Europe. Please note: Only US-made 01-04 automatic transmission vehicles are not affected by column lock failure. The recall has disabled the physical column lock on most C5s, but these Corvettes now have "Remove Key, Wait 10 Seconds" and "Inspect Column Lock" messages, as well as a 2 mph fuel cutoff. may occur.
